You’re cordially invited to celebrate a night of indie rock and power pop with The Beths joined by special guests Folk Bitch Trio and the French Cassettes this May 24th!

The Beths is a band named after front-woman Elizabeth Stokes from Auckland, New Zealand. First formed at the University of Auckland's jazz school, during a wave of live indie music in the 2010s, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Elizabeth Stokes, guitarist Jonathan Pearce, bassist Benjamin Sinclair, and drummer Tristan Deck. They have toured internationally with Death Cab for Cutie and The National, and received praise from Rolling Stone and Pitchfork. Their 2018 debut, Future Me Hates Me, was hailed as a top indie-rock debut. They followed this with Jump Rope Gazers (2020), Expert In A Dying Field (2022) a widely acclaimed third album, playing 200 shows across North America, the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

The Beths know the futility of straight lines. Existential vertigo serves as the primary theme on the New Zealand indie heroes’ fourth album Straight Line Was A Lie (their first for new label ANTI-), on which The Beths — led by songwriter Elizabeth Stokes — posit that the only way round is through. That even after going through difficult, transformative experiences, you can still feel as though you’ve ended up in the same place. It’s a bewildering thing, realising that life and personal growth are cyclical and continual. That a chapter doesn’t always end with peace and acceptance.
